ENDOWED CHAIR FOR EMINENT SCHOLARS

Appointees must possess relevant higher degrees and distinguished records of research and publications leading to appointments as tenured full professors. Must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and an equally strong commitment to enriching the intellectual lives of Dillard University students through the use of their research and scholarship.

THE REVIUS O. ORTIQUE JR., ENDOWED CHAIR FOR EMINENT SCHOLAR IN POLITICAL SCIENCE: While all related interests will be considered, preference will be given to those holding a specialty in African American political development and culture and its connection to public policy and urban government.

THE ROSA FREEMAN KELLER AND CHARLES KELLER ENDOWED CHAIR FOR EMINENT SCHOLAR IN MARKETING MANAGEMENT: Ideal candidate must demonstrate expertise in accounting, finance, management, marketing, or management information systems, and have a minimum seven years teaching and research excellence at the university level.

THE ROSAMARY ENDOWED CHAIR FOR EMINENT SCHOLAR IN HUMANITIES/FINE ARTS: Successful candidate must demonstrate specialties in African Diasporan Literature and Creative Arts, and a minimum seven years teaching and research at the university level.


AFRICAN WORLD STUDIES INSTITUTE

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND DIRECTOR: Successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in African (Black, African American, African) Studies and have a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and/or creative accomplishments, and administrative experience. The Director is expected to be an effective advocate for the expansion and enrichment of the Institute and to provide leadership in the coordination of academic major, development of a strong research component and other program, and the development of a local, national, and international reputation.


DIVISION OF EDUCATION

DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER FOR TEACHING, TECHNOLOGY, LEARNING AND CULTURE: Successful candidate will be required to provide leadership in planning and coordination of our newly funded Center for Teaching, Technology, Learning, and Culture, and its institutes (Historical and Cultural Institute on African American Education, Language and Literacy Institute, and Faculty Teaching and Learning Resource Institute). Candidates with an established scholarly research agenda and fund raising abilities are especially encouraged to apply. In addition, the Director will also coordinate and teach courses in the area of language/literacy. Particular expertise is desired in children and adolescent's literature for middle level students, adolescent literacy, and young adolescent development, with special emphasis on African American students' language acquisition. A terminal degree in Education is required.

PSYCHOLOGY - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Psychology, with strengths in computer assisted instructional techniques and use of the internet as a learning tool, and research interests in health-related issues, specifically, or other psychological areas in general. Selected candidate will teach introductory, as well as human development, adolescent, personality, history, and systems of psychology. An exceptional new graduate or ABD may be considered.


DIVISION OF HUMANITIES

DEAN OF HUMANITIES: The Dean of Humanities reports to the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs and sits on the Provost Council. The Dean will collaborate among a team of innovative and creative deans, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be open and accessible. This individual must demonstrate a profound commitment to assessing and restructuring a 21st century curriculum in concert with an ongoing academic planning process. Will also work to foster a collaborative relationship between the University and the state, national, and international arts and humanities communities, through external outreach and the creation of curricular partnerships. Successful candidate must have: demonstrated ability to manage a budget in an era of limited resources; experience in fostering the collaborative participation of faculty to achieve University goals; notable experience in the arts and humanities; commitment to and knowledge about requirements for state and national accreditation; demonstrated ability to maximize internal and external resources; commitment to the integration of technology into the teaching/learning process; an understanding of national trends and issues related to the arts and humanities; ability to recruit and hire division faculty and provide annual reviews of performance; and commitment to serve as advocate for division needs and programs. Qualifications include: Earned doctorate in arts and humanities or related field from a regionally accredited institution; 3-5 years exemplary administrative leadership in higher education (experience in state/federal educational agencies is desired); and evidence of excellence in teaching, service; and scholarly achievement sufficient to meet the requirements for tenure and the appointment to the rank of Associate or full Professor.

ENGLISH - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must have a M.A. in English (Ph.D. preferred). Candidates must demonstrate a background in rhetoric and composition, and evidence in teaching excellence, service and scholarly achievement.

MASS COMMUNICATIONS - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate will have an earned terminal degree in Communications, however, ABD or special journalism and public relations experience will be considered. Selected candidate must have teaching and research expertise in print journalism, public relations, copyediting and layout, and electronic journalism.

RELIGION AND PHILOSOPHY - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Successful candidate must demonstrate primary expertise in Biblical studies; and secondary expertise/interest in African American culture, inter-religions, philosophy, and/or feminist perspective. An earned Ph.D. is required.

SPEECH COMMUNICATION - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must demonstrate teaching and research expertise in public speaking, forensics, and mass media. A terminal degree in the field is required; however, candidates with an ABD will be considered.


DIVISON OF NATURAL SCIENCES AND PUBLIC HEALTH

BIOLOGY - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidates must have a broad biology background to teach general biology for all students, as well as upper-level courses for biology majors. You will be expected to develop an externally funded research program for undergraduate students. Ph.D. required; teaching experience preferred; postdoctoral desired.

CHEMISTRY - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must have a broad background in chemistry for majors and non-majors, and will be expected to develop an externally funded research program for undergraduate students. Ph.D. required; teaching experience preferred; postdoctoral desired.

COMPUTER SCIENCE - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must demonstrate competency in microcomputer software applications, data communications and networking, operating systems, systems analysis and design, C++ and JAVA. Master's degree in computer information systems or computer science required; Ph.D. preferred; ABD considered.

MATHEMATICS - ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must have a broad background in mathematics for majors and non-majors, and will be required to develop an externally funded research program for undergraduate students. Ph.D. required; teaching experience preferred; postdoctoral desired.

PHYSICS - ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must have a broad background in physics for majors and non-majors, and pre-engineering. You will be required to develop an externally funded research program for undergraduate students. Ph.D. required; teaching experience preferred; postdoctoral desired.

PUBLIC HEALTH - ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Ideal candidate must have a broad public health background. You will be required to develop an externally funded research program for undergraduate students. Ph.D. required; teaching experience preferred; postdoctoral desired.


DIVISON OF NURSING

NURSING - ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ideal candidates will have a doctoral degree in Adult, Child, or Mental Health Nursing, and experience in the teaching of nursing. Subspecialty preparation in nursing also desired.

Selected candidate reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs; be responsible for the overall administration of campus safety and security; supervise a force of 16 sworn officers providing law enforcement, community policing, security and parking management services to the campus community. Excellent leadership, supervisory and communications skills required.

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or related field and a minimum 8 years experience in law enforcement, public safety and security. The candidate must have requisite certification or become certified within 1 year of employment. A security background check and drug testing are required.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PHILOSOPHY AND RELIGION
The Department of Philosophy and Religion invites applications for the tenure-track position, beginning August 2003. Primary expertise in Biblical Studies is required with secondary expertise or interest in African-American culture, interreligions, philosophy and/or feminist perspective.
Teaching responsibilities include eight undergraduate courses in Biblical Studies and Philosophy per academic year and student advising. Successful candidates will also support the development of the Department of Philosophy and Religion. A Ph.D. is required; knowledge of another modern language is highly desirable.
